Setup Xen 3.4.1 & Libvirt on top F12 Alpha (rawhide)

Brief description of Xen 3.4.1 and Libvirt 0.7.0-6 deployment to Fedora 12 Alpha (rawhide) follows bellow. F12 instance was created on the second drive. All my attempts to resize default LVM created by installer caused installer to crash. Activate rpmbuild via:-

yum install transfig texi2html libaio-devel dev86 glibc-devel.i686

Build Xen rpms

rpm -ivh bridge-utils-1.2-8.fc12.x86_64.rpm
rpm -iv xen-3.4.1-3.fc12.src.rpm
cd rpmbuild/SPEC
rpmbuild -ba ./xen.spec
cd ../RPMS/x86_64

Install Xen Hypervisor & tools

Two pvops kernels may be used for Dom0 support

1) 2.6.31-rc8 via Jeremy Fitzhardinge Git Repos. 2.6.31-rc8 had been built on F11 instance dual booting with F12 and afterwards installed along with modules on F12.
Same kernel been built on F12 has different “dmesg output” with stack traces and
appears to be unstable at runtime, causing random kernel crashes, dropping XenHost
console into stack traces.

    Im just curious as to why you decided to use Xen instead of KVM?

    Xen is pretty crap in comparison vs KVM which is natively in the kernel.

An idiot obviously :).I’ve also updated post with firewall tuning instructions, Alpha builds never requires much security, however to tune firewall is not a problem. I also run HP and Sun boxes as
    root for a while and endless authentication confirmations on Ubuntus,Fedoras,OpenSolaris upset me a little bit.

    Perhaps you should’ve explained why you’re disabling the firewall? noobs are going to be copying your instructions verbatim – even after the final version is out.

    Running a desktop as root will brand you an “idiot” by a lot of people. Don’t take my word for it, do a 1 minute google search. Even X-Chat will literally call you “Stupid” for running as root. No matter how inconvenient it is, it makes your pc as insecure as a Windows box.

    A lot of people can avoid simple malware that requires execution but there are others that exploit vulnerabilities in your user programs. Malicious code run in Firefox could compromise your security if you’re running as root.

    Being alpha I’d be worried about security, they aren’t making security fixes unless someone reports one as a bug. Their aim is that of everything being stable and assume there are no security flaws. Also some of the stuff is very experimental and might have flaws because its in the alpha stage.
